Ukrainian Culture Case: What is the Art of War About?
Ukrainian culture has a rich history of artistic expressions, and one of the profound subjects explored by Ukrainian artists is the art of war. In this article, I will delve into the significance of artwork about war in today's world and explore the works of notable Ukrainian artists who depict the strong experiences associated with war.
I am going to talk especially about war painted by #JAG artists.

Artwork About War: Why Is This Important Today?

War has always been a subject of artistic exploration, as it embodies both the horrors and the heroism of human experiences. In today's world, where conflicts persist, and new challenges arise, artwork about war serves as a powerful medium to raise awareness, provoke thought, and foster empathy.

Through their creations, artists capture the complexities of war, shedding light on its devastating consequences, the resilience of individuals, and the profound impact on societies. These artworks provide a platform for reflection, dialogue, and understanding, urging viewers to confront the realities of conflict and strive for peace.

Ukrainian War Paintings: Artists Who Depict Strong Experience

Not surprisingly, war is such a global experience that everything else fades into the background. The artist does not so much, it seems to me, find inspiration in the war as he uses art as a cartography of his experience of experiencing the war.

Several Ukrainian artists have created poignant and thought-provoking works that depict the realities of war and its effects. Let's explore the contributions of some notable artists:

Andriy Klishyn

Andriy Klishyn is the first artist I want to mention here. He is a Ukrainian artist whose paintings convey the emotional and psychological aspects of war. His works often portray soldiers and civilians, capturing their expressions and the weight of their experiences. Klishyn's use of color, texture, and composition evokes a sense of tension and resilience.

💭 I am a professional artist who started my career late. But it is possible that this should have happened. Everything has its time. I have been drawing professionally since 2019, but I already have over two hundred paintings. My art is ambiguous and unlike any other, probably because I paint with my heart. Sometimes I use intuitive drawing, namely: not from life and not from paintings, but only what is in my head, in my soul, in my heart.

Julia Lihina

Julia Lihina is known for her powerful and expressive war paintings. Her works often depict the destruction and devastation caused by conflict, while also emphasizing the strength and unity of the Ukrainian people. Lihina's use of bold brushstrokes and intense color palettes adds an emotional depth to her compositions.

The artist finds his inspiration in films. It can be said that Yulia Likhina is engaged in a kind of efvemization: she transfers mediated experience into direct experience.

Dmitriy Zazimko

Dmitriy Zazimko's artwork explores the human experiences during war, focusing on the themes of sacrifice and hope. His paintings often depict soldiers in moments of reflection, emphasizing their courage and resilience. Zazimko's attention to detail and use of symbolism invites viewers to contemplate the complexities of conflict.

💭 Dmitriy Zazimko's career as an artist began in 2016, when he began experimenting with various techniques and materials, creating new forms and textures, which resulted in a series of paintings on canvas and wooden tablets. And after a few years, his work could be seen in many Ukrainian and international art projects, at exhibitions in Prague and Greece. The author's paintings won prizes in art competitions and were published in domestic publications and in the international art almanac WE CONTEMPORARY by Serradifalco Edditore. And in 2020, during his personal exhibition "Reverence of Time", Dmitriy was able to combine his paintings with riddles and revive some artifacts with his hands, mislead visitors when he demonstrated imitation of metal only using acrylic on canvas. Some of the artist's works interact with the free ARTIVIVE app to complement their content.

💭 Currently, the artist's arsenal includes works that can satisfy the most diverse tastes of art connoisseurs. So, in the series "Artifacts" the desire of a person is laid in the knowledge of the values and relics of various civilizations, with the help of which we have learned to understand the ancients, read texts and decipher hieroglyphs... In a series of works by NASA, the idea is to show man and his essence, the desire to explore space and conquer other planets... Each picture reproduces the landscapes of the planet and the human footprint left on it. And the series of works "RustArt" and "Abstraction of Time" is the moment of creation and destruction, the struggle of man and time with the things of our environment - when time shows its strength and character, providing familiar things with new abstract strokes, controlling the elements like a brush, and man only remains to observe and understand that he is only a small part of this great process of creating beauty...

Eleonora Obukhova

Eleonora Obukhova's paintings capture the impact of war on individuals and their surroundings. Her works often depict ruins and landscapes altered by conflict, conveying a sense of loss and the endurance of the human spirit. Obukhova's use of light and shadow creates a haunting atmosphere in her compositions.

💭 My painting is my World, it is a reflection of me: my thoughts, emotions, life, values, that which is hidden fr om prying eyes. I like to see this World Beautiful and this Beautiful I want to share with others. Each person on Earth sees this World in his own way. Each person draws in his imagination his living space, in which he is well and comfortable. Most of us run through life without noticing what is happening around, I want to make the audience stop for a moment and look back at the beauty that surrounds us. I will help you to see this unique World with my eyes.

💭 My career began with an art school, where I was engaged in graphics and watercolors. Participated in various exhibitions. I also minted on copper and brass. From 10 years old, she began to draw female images with graphics, conveying her mood and emotions, at that time not yet mature, children's, with the help of a drawing. There was a great desire to become an artist. Also engaged in painting on glass. I always wanted to paint in oil, so when I started to continue my studies, I made the choice at the painting studio of Nadezhda Kulinichenko, in which I got acquainted with the basics of academic painting. She continued her studies at the private school of the Artist, a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine, Olga Dumanskaya. Wh ere was the full course of academic drawing, academic painting, portraiture

💭 At the moment I am the organizer and head of the painting studio "World of Painting" on Podil. The artist’s paintings are in private collections in Ukraine, Italy, Poland, Belarus, Germany, the Czech Republic, the United States, Bulgaria, Belgium. A series of architectural paintings in Belarus formed the basis of the advertising products of Belarus (calendars, magnets, cups...).
