French master Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) is considered one of the founders of modern sculpture. His sculptural work The Thinker was originally planned as a part of the large The Gates of Hell complex, and was probably an allusion to Dante Alighieri, but in the end it became a completely separate lyrical figure.

During the modern definition of the essence, form and aesthetics of sculptures underwent changes. A more “original” sculpture has already established itself in art. Umberto Boccioni (1882-1916), a leading futurist, with his sculpture Unique Forms of Continuity in Space completely destroys all the standards and canons characteristic of the classics. Conceptuality now becomes more important than naturalism. Constantin Brâncuși (1876-1957) is also an outstanding figure in the history of modern sculpture. A bright representative of the Prague school, one of the main founders of abstract sculpture, known for his rather provocative works.
