Description of the Artwork “Belly Piercing Display”
Pierced Parts Series: One in a series of sculpture exploring the darker sophistication of body piercing. Jewelry shown is included and replaceable but I cannot guarantee the fit of other jewelry. It is set on a stainless steel rod into a block of Gabon ebony wood. The ebony was hand cut, lightly shaped and polished. Robert Nelson, Japan
Robert is a materialistic American artist working in Japan. He seeks to create mood in an object. He is a pre-packaged product of a human being, and is generally unremarkable. Robert’s work is composed primarily of lifecasts which are plaster cast, and painted. Objects are attached to various base materials. Bases are either found objects reworked or bought locally and used. Fusion of organic and inorganic is a recurring theme. Robert has a social phobia, and tends to find both nature and people to be unsettling and threatening. He started this iteration of work as display objects for boutique jewelry and accessories. It has since branched out.
