Johanna von Holst is a Hamburg born, Berlin based photographer, splitting her time between Berlin & Palma de Mallorca. She was initially introduced to image-making by her father, and began taking her first photographs on an analog camera. At a young age she cultivated her passion for photography. Already at age 13 she created colorful staged self-portraits using props she collected outfitted with wardrobe items from her mother’s closet, who is a painter herself. Johanna von Holst’s friends, or one of her 6 younger siblings, were subjects for her image compositions. Years of practice gave her a very strong foundation to her work and a unique creative approach. After graduating with an Art Direction diploma, Johanna von Holst worked for several advertising agencies such as; Ogilvy and R/GA in New York City. There, she dove into photography, further developing both technical and theoretic skills. Her work in studios and assisting other photographers for over two years intensified her knowledge and understanding of the art. Whether capturing landscape, fashion, portrait, or self-portraits, her work ranges from printed fine art to online fashion editorials. Through Johanna Laleh von Holst’s eye for color and composition, she aspires to create an invigorating aesthetic via a multi-layered creative process. Using both photography and filmmaking as story- telling tools, Johanna Laleh von Holst’s work has been featured in print and online publications such as; i-D Germany, VICE, Monopol Magazine, Groove Mag, Exberliner Magazine, ZEIT Magazine, ACKUA, and Life Framer. Her work has been exhibited several times over the past years, including the Berlin Photo Week at Kraftwerk, the Photo Fair at Westergas in Amsterdam, or the Cluster Fair in London. In 2020 she was selected to be part of the Fresh Eyes Photo Book, presenting the „100 greatest emerging photographers of the year“ Currently Johanna Laleh von Holst is working on her first photo book, which is planned to be published later this year. She is available to travel for assignments across Europe and internationally.
