About the artist
Willem Botha

Willem Botha, Bulgaria

I was born in Pretoria South Africa in 1962. My career started as a sculptor for the national Defence force. Years later I entered the world of Special effects artist for the film industry, where I have more than 70 films under my belt. In 2017, I retired from the film Industry, and started full time sculpting again. Today my work is in many private collections all over the world. In 2020, I immigrated to Sofia Bulgaria, where I opened my new studio. I would say that I have a classical approach to sculpture in most of my work. I like to explore the body, whether human or animal Most of my works present a dramatic tension with an unbalanced perception of gravity. I sometimes like to introduce movement. It is then endangering my compositions, which confine to an unstable balance, while revealing each time the nobility and the grace. I believe in the words of Leonardo da Vinci that his Art is never finished, only abandoned
