In this painting, created with oil paints on a wooden panel, the artist takes the viewer into the world of medieval Dutch painting with its rich symbolism and deep subtexts. This work of art is surprisingly peculiar and full of mysterious details. In the center of the painting is an old man, who may represent an allegorical figure of wisdom and time. His gloomy and thoughtful face speaks of the burden of the past years and the accumulated wisdom of life. He acts as an observer of the events taking place in this world. To the left of the elder is a water monster, he is one of the creatures from Slavic mythology. It symbolizes natural forces and their impermanence. The grasping hands emphasize man's struggle with the power of nature and his dependence on it.
Elena Bezhenova was born in the Caucasus. It was the place of birth that determined the artist’s interest in studying and observing nature. In particular, Elena is professionally engaged in entomology and collects a personal collection of insects. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Moscow where she studied in detail the technique and technology of painting, and in particular the Dutch and German painters of the early Renaissance. She studied at the Rodchenko Moscow School of Photography and Multimedia, where she took a course in contemporary art. Now he is a 4th year student of École Supérieure d’Art et Design in Grenoble, where he continues his studies. In her artistic practice, Elena Bezhenova works with classical mediums of art — painting and drawing. At the same time, including modern technologies. The main theme of her work is the theory of the New Middle Ages. Through the prism of studying medieval painting, Elena comprehends modernity, creating her own picturesque images.
