The painting, executed in oil paints on a wooden panel, is a vivid example of inspiration from medieval Dutch painting. The characteristic features of this style are the detail, the richness of the color palette and the image of both realistic and fantastic elements. The painting presents a complex and multifaceted world where reality and fantasy are intertwined. In the center of the composition there is a figure with a mask in the form of an animal's head, which can symbolize mystery, or can allegorically represent human nature or another concept. This figure is sitting on a huge fish, surrounded by other mythical creatures. The background landscape includes a number of different buildings, boats and other elements, each of which may have its own symbolism or meaning. The sky is filled with fantastic birds flying in different directions, which can speak of infinity and freedom.
