Description of the Artwork “Swirling Horizon In Red”

This is an oil painting on a deep-edge cotton canvas. The painting depicts the impression of a countryside meadow, with the tangled structure of vegetation, warm lights, and trees on the distant horizon line. I stylized the three-dimensional landscape into a decorative, textured, two-dimensional painting. The color of the trees in the upper half of the picture is bluer, less saturated, and less contrasting than the foreground, according to the laws of the spatial landscape. The deep, warm reds of the middle are accentuated by the cool blue-green shade of the lower parts. The red-green complementary contrast makes the overall image even more vibrant. SIZE: - 400×400 mm, depth: 40 mm MATERIALS: - stretched canvas on a wooden frame (360 g/m² cotton canvas) - professional-grade Talens Rembrandt oil paint - protective varnish The painting is signed on its front-, and backside.

About the artist

My name is Adrienn Pécsek. I was born in Hungary in 1985, and I still live here in a rural village in the southwestern part of the country. I have been interested in art since I was a child. I graduated from Zichy Mihály Secondary Vocational School of Applied Arts, in Kaposvár, as a graphic designer in 2004. After that, I got my Bachelor's degree as a stage and costume designer at the University of Kaposvár in 2008. At the university, in addition to knowledge of visual design, the focus was mainly on fine art, I had great, internationally-known, awarded masters. After that, I worked for several different printing companies as a graphic designer and pre-press operator, but I have always wanted to focus on handpainted fine art. I started to create handpainted artwork again in 2022. The subject of my paintings is mainly nature, often drawn from my close environment. I live in the countryside, so I just have to walk out into my garden or the nearby woods. Another favorite subject of mine is the sea. In the summer, my vacation destinations are always by the sea, I am always impressed by the huge water surface and the beauty of its surroundings. I depict nature and landscapes in slightly abstracted, simplified form, also expressing my inner world, and thoughts with the artwork. My art was mostly influenced by impressionism, because of its closeness to nature, and the importance of human perception and experience. I try to capture the essence of the subject rather than its details. Van Gogh also influenced me, especially with his bold, dramatic brushstrokes. My favorite technique is oil painting. I like to build up my paintings with paint layers of various thicknesses, to enrich the impasto parts with additional patterns and textures. These impasto strokes and textures express emotions and add a sense of movement to my works. I mainly work on a smaller scale on canvas, and on oil painting paper too. I think that with the right approach, art can be found everywhere around us, even in the most boring, ordinary environment, and I want to show this to my audience with my paintings.
