Description of the Artwork “Spring Tree”

This is an original handpainted impasto oil painting on canvas paper, mounted on a white passe-partout. The canvas paper is a heavyweight paper with a textured, coated surface that closely replicates the finished surface of a canvas. This is a modern, abstract impressionistic landscape of a forest with wildflowers and a tree in the foreground illuminated by the sun's rays from behind. The artwork was inspired by a spring walk in the nearby forest. I wanted to show the atmosphere of the forest waking up in spring. The viewer stands in the darker foreground. The silhouette of the tree and the flowers below it are hit by a very strong light, they nearly seem to be on fire. There is a strong tone contrast between the dark and light parts, this is further enhanced by the complementary contrast of the appearing violets and yellows, thus creating a vibrant, lively overall effect. The painting was made with dynamic, expressive brushwork and thick impasto layers. I applied the base color layer with oil paint diluted with turpentine, and then the top layers of thick paint were applied with a brush and a palette knife. SIZE: - full size with mat: 9.5×12 inches - painted area: 7×9.5 inches MATERIALS: - Fabriano Tela canvas paper - oil paint - protective varnish - acid-free, white mat (Fabriano Pittura paper) The painting is signed on its backside. *The original painting may differ slightly in color from the image you see on your screen, because of the differences in computer color management settings.

About the artist

My name is Adrienn Pécsek. I was born in Hungary in 1985, and I still live here in a rural village in the southwestern part of the country. I have been interested in art since I was a child. I graduated from Zichy Mihály Secondary Vocational School of Applied Arts, in Kaposvár, as a graphic designer in 2004. After that, I got my Bachelor's degree as a stage and costume designer at the University of Kaposvár in 2008. At the university, in addition to knowledge of visual design, the focus was mainly on fine art, I had great, internationally-known, awarded masters. After that, I worked for several different printing companies as a graphic designer and pre-press operator, but I have always wanted to focus on handpainted fine art. I started to create handpainted artwork again in 2022. The subject of my paintings is mainly nature, often drawn from my close environment. I live in the countryside, so I just have to walk out into my garden or the nearby woods. Another favorite subject of mine is the sea. In the summer, my vacation destinations are always by the sea, I am always impressed by the huge water surface and the beauty of its surroundings. I depict nature and landscapes in slightly abstracted, simplified form, also expressing my inner world, and thoughts with the artwork. My art was mostly influenced by impressionism, because of its closeness to nature, and the importance of human perception and experience. I try to capture the essence of the subject rather than its details. Van Gogh also influenced me, especially with his bold, dramatic brushstrokes. My favorite technique is oil painting. I like to build up my paintings with paint layers of various thicknesses, to enrich the impasto parts with additional patterns and textures. These impasto strokes and textures express emotions and add a sense of movement to my works. I mainly work on a smaller scale on canvas, and on oil painting paper too. I think that with the right approach, art can be found everywhere around us, even in the most boring, ordinary environment, and I want to show this to my audience with my paintings.
