Capturing the serene elegance of a coastal Californian town, this acrylic painting on canvas radiates warmth, cheerfulness, and tranquility. Crafted by Vanessa Stafford in 2024, it's a celebration of light and color, portraying the harmonious integration of modern structures with the timeless beauty of the seaside. Each brushstroke conveys a sense of protection and shelter, characteristic of the town's architecture, while inviting viewers into a sunny, welcoming landscape. Beyond mere travel or tourism, this piece invites contemplation of the town's lively yet calm atmosphere, making it a beacon of both modernity and timeless natural beauty.
I've been painting since 1967. I started as a studio painter, and used watercolors. I branched out to acrylic paint, as well as painting outdoor in the "plein air" style. I started painting outside, in the great outdoors, dazzled by “high adventure” as I battled the elements of weather. I bid for mural jobs: traffic signal cabinets. I've painted more than twelve cabinets for Santa Cruz. I was chosen to paint murals in Almaden Valley. In 2018 I had a solo exhibition at the County Building in Santa Cruz. The most recent “Pegasus” sculpture was chosen by Newberg, Oregon. My recent venture is sculpting with epoxy clay and plexiglass, and fiberglass. I enjoy fabricating sculptures with lights that shine from the inside of the sculpture through transparent areas. I designed a Pegasus with LED lights that shine from the inside out, through transparent plexiglass.
