Beautiful Evolution is a highly original semi abstract oil painting of a peacock evolving against a partially formed autumn landscape. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. The peacock in not completely obvious at first as he is blending well into the vortex of autumn colours of the landscape behind him (a real one near where I live). He is painted in vibrant colours and is looking back at us with mild imperiousness. He is in the process of materializing or maybe disappearing into a new universe. The colours and shapes of the landscape become more fragmented towards the edges of canvas. Some of the shapes are pure abstract and some ore traditionally painted as I like the contrast of that. The background is lilac blue, and because I have built up many layers of paint, the rainbow colours reflect differently throughout the day. The ‘meaning’ of the painting is something I am happy to leave to the viewer. Painted on deep edge canvas, white edges, ready to hang and frame not needed.
I am a professional artist based in East Sussex who creates large semi abstract landscape, seascape and wildlife paintings in oil on canvas. My painting style is very distinct and fuses art-nouveau, impressionist and semi-abstract techniques with traditional portraiture that reflect my love of nature, animals, birds and the flora and fauna of the landscapes around me. My main working method has been the development of a painting style I term ‘memory impressionism’. This method involves going walking somewhere, looking at and absorbing the things I see and experience, and then returning home to my studio to try and capture an echo or essence of the place from memory - including any wildlife I may have seen. By this method I can capture essences and echoes of places and the feeling I have about them. I love the ancient landscapes of England and my paintings often reflect the spiritual elements that such landscapes have.
