Description of the Artwork “Call it a Day”

In 'Call it a Day,' Constantin Roucault masterfully encapsulates the quietude of an urban sunset. This oil painting invites viewers into a moment of serene reflection amid the city's hustle. A deserted construction site, cloaked in the soft glow of the sunset, serves as the focal point, with sprawling bridges overhead suggesting the unseen pace of city life. The absence of human figures and the inclusion of palm tree silhouettes add layers of quiet and natural beauty, suggesting a harmonious end to the day's labor. The artwork vibrates with the contrasting energies of rest and ceaseless activity, offering a unique reflection on urban existence.

About the artist
Constantin Roucault

Constantin Roucault, Switzerland

Constantin, born in 1984, is a contemporary artist from the canton of Fribourg. After earning his Master of Law (MLaw) degree from the University of Fribourg in 2011, he embarked on an academic career in jurisprudence. Over time, however, his focus increasingly shifted towards visual arts. Through various workshops and private art courses, he deepened his artistic skills, refined his drawing techniques, and expanded his artistic approach. Oil paint became his preferred medium—chosen for its vibrant color palette, depth, and ability to create an emotional connection with the audience. Occasionally, Constantin integrates additional techniques such as acrylic, ink, charcoal, collage, and screen printing, enriching his works with diverse textures and layers. Constantin’s body of work has evolved into various series, each exploring its own themes and stylistic approaches. They reflect his ongoing artistic exploration and development. In his art, Constantin explores the tension between the man-made world and nature—both in their contrast and harmony. Some of his urban motifs, featuring graphic lines and imaginative elements, lend a playful touch to cityscapes. In his abstract works, he examines the energy and movement of waves, inspired by the power of nature. Other pieces resemble a narrative journey full of hidden truths—a labyrinth of mirrors where each viewer confronts their own desires, fears, and emotions.
