Description of the Artwork “Brooklyn- New York 1930”

Automatic translation

Oil on CANSON textured paper Brooklyn with a vintage car in the foreground. It is part of a series painted for the illustration of a new book dedicated to Lorca in New York. To create these works, the artist searched for images in the photography library of New York in the 1930s, a time in which the poet was residing in the city. For the final composition, he also searched for automobiles from the period and in each of the works placed a vehicle in the foreground. García Lorca left Spain in 1929 to give lectures in Cuba and New York. Even so, the reason for the trip was perhaps a pretext to change scenery and escape from the environment that surrounded him and that oppressed him: due to a sentimental failure and the internal dilemma he felt about his sexuality, Lorca suffered a deep depression at that time. . He lived in New York from June 25, 1929 to March 4, 1930, then leaving for Cuba, where he resided for a period of time.
