Heather always reminds me of Celestin Medović, the famous Croatian painter from the second half of the 19th century. He was born in Kuna, Peljesac peninsula, and many of his paintings are dedicated to the stunning beauty of its landscapes. He rambled around a countryside and painted, just like I do nowadays, and heather appears frequently in his works. He has always been a role model to me, a painter I looked up to, I proudly and humbly admit that. Every time I paint heather it is a kind of homage to him. White, pink, violet, purple, I never get bored walking the hills that appear dressed up in blossoming heather. This particular violet beauty here is not from Peljesac, it grows at Srđ, a montain above Dubrovnik. October 2017, Oil on hardboard, 50 x 70 cm
