Description of the Artwork “Il Faro”

The artist, Umberto Cesino, has lived all his life in the sea town of Castellammare di Stabia. The ocean is an integral part of himself, a faithful companion that has inspired most of his paintings. The painting shows the ocean view from his home window.

BRUNO CIOCCIA, United States

Umberto Cesino was born in Castellammare di Stabia, Naples, Italy, in 1951. Painter, sculptor, photographer, illustrator. Among his works of major importance is the bronze sculpture of the Monument of the Emigrant, situated at the entrance to the town of San Mango on the Calore in the province of Avellino. His artworks are exposed in La Pergola Gallery in Florence, in galleries Consorti and Rossocinabro in Rome. His paintings vary from portraits, to landscapes using various techniques: tempera, oil, mixed media, etc.. He has executed numerous murals, trompe l'oeil , in public localities and private homes. His works are to be found in many private collections. Among his most significant graphic works there are designes of the reconstruction of archaeological monument from Pompeii, Herculaneum, Capri and Sorrento, realized in collaboration with his son Giuseppe. They have been published as transparencies in the book “Pompeii” by the editor d’ Oriano. A painting , S. Catello’s come back, is in the Cathedral of Castellammare di Stabia (NA). He painted the portrait of the Commander of the Vatican Swiss Guards, Cristoph Graf, and he personally consigned it in December 2016.. Two graphic works have been archived in the Collection Sgarbi of Prints and Designs and published in the volume “Artists of the Sgarbi Collection”.
