Yulia Petrova-Meek was born in Kiev. She also lived in Moscow before moving to London in 1999. Shortly after this she studied at the Slade and has subsequently trained with respected Russian artists. Her chosen style of art powerfully combines influences from contemporary London with inspiration from the great era of Russian avant-garde painting. Echoes of Kandinsky, Larionov and Filonov sit comfortably alongside eastern notes, derived from Yulia’s travels throughout Japan. A passionate supporter of opera and ballet, Yulia’s work combines abstraction, rhythm and colour to create works of emotional complexity in a variety of media, from etching, to watercolours and large oils on canvas.
