This drawing on a vintage Finnish envelope is the second in a series of surreal sketches capturing my state as a refugee in Finland. The twisted shape, reminiscent of armor or a snail shell, symbolically reflects compression and curling into an embryonic position — a state of vulnerability and lack of security. It represents the second stage of post-traumatic stress disorder that emerged in me after being evacuated from my hometown.
Yulia, a 22-year-old Ukrainian artist, works in surrealism. Born in a currently occupied territory, she was forced to endure many trials, which had a profound impact on her art. In her artworks, Yulia explores complex emotions connected with struggle, losses, and the search for inner balance. Her works are an attempt to find beauty amidst chaos and inspire others to seek their own path.
