Description of the Artwork “On Andrew's descent”
Andreevskiy descent in Kiev is one of the ancient ways connecting the Upper city, its central part, with the commercial Podil. It runs from Kontraktova Square to Desyatinskaya and Vladimirskaya streets. The road, which later became the Andreevsky Descent, was dug in a hillside between Vozdyhalnitsa and Castle Mountain, when on these mountains there was a castle erected, possibly, by the Lithuanians. According to the surviving descriptions of the land and notes of travelers, this descent was initially very narrow, uneven and inconvenient. The construction of St. Andrew's descent began in the XVIII century, and its intensive part falls on the border of the late XIX - early XX centuries.
