Description of the Artwork “Free spirit”
Free Spirit depicts depicts what it's like to have no worries nor pressured in our modern day society despite all that is happening around us. This is a mixed media work, the main figure is a wood cut robotic image which portrays the true meaning of a free spirited being, despite their lack of control over their creation, they do no see it as a burden. This image was pasted over an urban setting background.
Abdullahi Adisa, Nigeria
Abdullahi is a self taught mixed media artist working primarily paintings with textural feel to bring the art works to life. His work bears the proud influence his surroundings, with which he expresses himself through his vibrant collage works. Taking inspiration from abstract expressionism, Abdullahi combines vibrant colours, applied with confident brush strokes and wood carvings, with intricately arranged elements of discarded material, resulting in mid-to-large sized mixed-media works that explore socio-political themes.
