In slavic mythology, Vodyanoy is a male water spirit. Vodyanoy has a fish's tail and look like as a naked old man whit beard. When angered, the vodyanoy breaks dams and drowns people and animals. He would drag down people to his underwater dwelling to serve him as slaves. Consequently, fishermen, sailors and peasants make a sacrifices or cheat to appease him.
