About the artist
Pele Madsen

Pele Madsen, France

Pele Madsen was born and raised in Greenland's capital Nuuk where he first discovered professional art with the help of a Canadian artist Gary Berteig at the age of 25. After twenty-six years of life in his home country, Pele left to explore the wider horizons, first settling in Copenhagen, Denmark with one goal in mind - to create art. Not long after, with like-minded people, he started a studio where they could learn fr om each other and inspire each other's creativity. Although originally his goal was to paint large abstract art pieces, he took another turn and began drawing comic books, and not long after was hired as a professional graphic designer for a video game company. Years late, alongside his passion for art, Pele discovered another passion - Argentine tango and began working as a dance teacher not long after. Still, the love for painting won over when he and his wife settled in a small village in the Burgundy region in France, wh ere he now focuses solemnly on painting. Unless he is enjoying a glass of wine after a day of gardening. "I am a Greenlander in my heart, and I always loved wide open spaces, vivid colors, and bold motives. But, although, I find inspiration in Greenlandic motives, I also enjoy experimenting with different techniques, styles, and textures. Therefore, my art varies from abstract to decorative and detailed paintings. Every piece I make is the product of my imagination, be it a woman's face, a landscape, or a folk tale motive inspired painting. My main material is acrylic paint and varnish, however, I love to experiment with different textures. Quite a few of my pieces are made on compressed wood boards which give the motives quite a unique texture and character."
