Description of the Artwork “Ichi”

Automatic translation

Doing abstraction, I find in it not only a tool of expression, but recently, I come to the conclusion that abstraction is a special kind of thinking that lies outside our usual way of looking at the world. and abstraction itself can be an intuitive cognition method; it is one of the few ways to bring something completely new to our world. Classes abstraction for me is a way to go beyond the limits of my usual and enter a sphere that people have not even had time to define for themselves. the world of forms, forms familiar to us, deceives us. We were captured by our own concepts, dividing the One World from the beginning into hundreds of differentiated fragments, and distributing them all the names, we thereby created a virtual world for ourselves. they so believed in its reality and constancy that now it was almost impossible to return to the original holistic perception of unity and harmony. That is why I find the abstraction so exceptional, it gives the maximum freedom in expression and at the same time allows us to put on the canvas some permanent inner truth that each of us carries in ourselves. The truth about who we are. And do it with almost no distortion. in this, the abstraction in spirit is very similar to Japanese calligraphy. Hieroglyphs themselves are nothing but abstract forms through which you can bring your spirit into the work along with their direct image, which is one of the four basic principles of calligraphy. thanks to calligraphy, I learned a lot about the balance about a special order without which good calligraphy is impossible and I put this knowledge into my abstractions. Ichi is a work about harmony and unity in which everything abides.

Alex Givka

Alex Givka, Ukraine

Painting for me is a method to discover reality. There is a great temptation to romanticize art too much, it is in everyday simplicity that the whole meaning of creativity and art is enclosed. In my works I try to understand the nature of everyday reality, to erase the boundary between art and life.
