The is the magnificent rest-house in the castle of Estremoz: Queen Saint Isabel Rest-House! This one has the name of the Portuguese Queen Isabel, known as the Saint of the poor. There is a suite in this rest-house, still preserved with all the furniture and elements fr om the times when the Queen came to rest in this city. Here, is wh ere the rose miracle took place and there is a statue from the Queen in the middle of the square. The legend says that this sweet Queen was a defender from the poor people, always taking care that they add, at least, enough food to kill the hunger. And one day, when she left these castle with a lot of breads hidden in her clothes, the King stopped her and ask what she carry there. She responds to him: "It's roses my Lord, it's roses!". The King didn't believe her and tell her to show what she was carrying. When the Queen open the vests, it was a dozen of roses that fall on the ground! This is the Portuguese "Miracle of the Roses"! From the Saint Queen Isabel!
