Public, spectators - that is people, have a habit to ask me about the plants in my paintings. I am able to name a certain number of them, but I am neither a biologist nor a botanist. And more, how could I possibly know the names of all these wild floral creatures in English? My grandson is studying biology but some more time will pass by till I can ask him for help as he has just started his Degree. Therefore, I seek help elsewhere, such as on the internet. The graceful green in this painting is called "mlječika" in Croatian. Leafy spurge. The first article I saw on the web regarding this plant, went along the lines: the Leafy spurge, a problem in your fields… "...a dominant problem in pasture and rangeland habitats" (in America, not in Europe, here it is just a weed). So, there I was, enjoying painting something that was a source of worry for someone else. It really made me think of the artists integrity and responsibility and such things. I am always looking for a good motive, and these spurges with its silvery green shades, its numerous pointy leaves were just that. I love the result and I give it to you with just a bit of undefined hesitation. Oil on hardboard, 70x50 cm
