I took canvas fabric and adhered it to the canvas with acrylic paint. I then placed and sculpted the fabric in place and layered on top with a mixture of sawdust and acrylic paint.
My work revolves around materials and the artistic process. My intention is to allow the material to dictate the outcome of the piece and I deconstruct and decontextualize materials out of their typical or expected form. I blur the line between painting and sculpture, the 2D and the 3D. It is not enough for me to solely draw a line or paint a form, I have to physically manipulate it with my hands in a 3D space. I want to change the way people see the mundane through deconstructing resources like canvas, string, cardboard, and sawdust.
