About the artist
Wang Tiande

Wang Tiande, United States

Wang Tiande was born in Shanghai, China in 1960. He studied Chinese painting at China Academy of Art and later obtained his doctorate degree from its calligraphy department. He is now an art professor at Fudan University in Shanghai. His works have been featured in collections at notable institutions such as the National Art Museum of China, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and the British Museum. Wang Tiande has continuously explored the language of ink and its potential for spiritual expression. He often takes sources in classical landscapes and calligraphy, but he replaces the brushes with sticks of burning incense, executing his imagery with a unique artistic language. Imbuing the landscape a certain contemporaneity, Wang Tiande creates an expansive virtual space in which contemporary people can engage with both nature and the ancients.
