Still life with African masks №4 Even in the world of socially acceptable masks that hide the nature of people, there is its own identity and hierarchy. If you look closely, you will find that some of the holes intended for the eyes shine through the distant plane behind them, while in others we see a gaping black void that does not correspond in any way to the lower spatial layer. Others seem to tease the viewer with a color tone that is completely independent of the medium. This expresses regret that the eyes can no longer be perceived as the mirror of the soul. All five masks in this painting have different scales and decorations. Two of them are medium-sized and close to each other, and three are small too. The largest one has not found a mate and stands isolated, on the sidelines. All this is very familiar to us: people often unite on the principle of similarity in something - appearance, degree of significance, common interests.
