Sophie Roman is a Kyiv-based artist working at the intersection of naive art and the avant-garde. Her primary medium is oil on plywood The conceptual core of her practice is an investigation of her own primary perception of society. Her paintings capture the initial, raw emotional response to an encounter with a stranger, preserving it in its most naive, primitive state. Thematically, she focuses on translating psycho-emotional states into visual language through body language, the symbolism of objects, and deliberate color choices. Roman deliberately rejects final authorial interpretation. Her works create a space for the viewer's personal projections, actively engaging them in the completion of meaning. She works primarily in series. The works are intended for exhibition projects and collecting.
