Description of the Artwork “Woman”

There is a Quote by R.Z. "You carry so much love in your heart, why not give some to yourself" I had it in my head when I painted this. The painting can mean to you whatever you feel but for me, this woman is a wife, and a mother, she is friend, she is a people pleaser, and she never stops. She is tired, and a little broken, but she keeps going. She keeps seeing the beauty in cooking for her family and keeping up with house. Her day is worked around everyone else's schedules and meals, she loves them so much she doesn't care that her life is worked around them, but when she looks in the mirror she can't see all beauty in herself, all she sees it how tired she is, how broken, that she over cooked the muffins at breakfast this morning, all of her faults. But she is beautiful, not in-spite of but because her faults, her scars, her life she has lived. This is a layered multi media piece. 48 in by 46 in (almost 4 foot by 4 foot) ply wood, I plastered over, and then I embossed a lotus flower and a butterfly onto it with glue, then I painted the whole thing, and then I drew the woman on it with oil pastels.

Gustav Klimt said "Art is a line around your thoughts.” I love that. That is exactly what art is to me. All my thoughts that are constantly running through my mind, all my words that that are constantly failing me. Things I want to say, but I’m not sure how, that’s why I paint. All the beautiful things and all the sad things that are in that I don’t know how to get out. And if means something to someone else, if they can see it and think I’ve felt that, or thought that and didn’t know how to say it, than that is even better. But mostly my art is just a collection of my thoughts, my dreams, my feelings, my stories I never told anyone.
