This image is derived from a prehistoric sculpture of a figure that is known as the goddess of fertility. I incorporated the form of an egg as part of the outline of the figure as a reference to religious symbols related to fertility and rebirth. The small multi-coloured spheres which were used to construct the image are intended to reinterpret how atoms are defined and illustrated by physicists. The colour scheme used throughout the figure refers to the seven chakras that are associated with Eastern spiritual traditions. My aim was to explore an artistic process which fuses visual notions related to science and spirituality in a single integrated system.
I am a visual artist who lives and works in Malta. The works that I produce focus primarily on drawing, painting and digital media. My work process involves research, planning and experimentation, due to my interest in bringing different subjects together in order to create a form of interdisciplinary art. My work tends to revolve around ideas related to landscape painting, geometry and colour theory. It incorporates methods of reinterpreting images of symbolic objects and locations through the use of illusory colour patterns which are often derived from notions related to modern art, physics, geology and digital technology.
