About the artist Aleksandr Kirichenko

I was born in 1967 in Vorkuta, Komi Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, and currently live in Vorkuta. A self-taught artist, he loved drawing lessons at school. Studied at TKU (trade and culinary school) in Vorkuta. He did not graduate from any art institutes, and did not imagine himself as an artist, his dreams were in a completely different direction, to train as a cook and get a job as a cook on a merchant ship. Fate decreed differently and sent me to serve in the construction battalion of the Trans-Baikal Military District (ZABVO). Thanks to this, fate brought me together with a Moscow guy, he doesn’t remember his name, but it was he who introduced me to this rare art form “GRATTTAGE ON PLASTIC”, conveyed his secrets and nuances in this work. During my service, I achieved great perfection in drawing; my colleagues asked me to paint pictures, sometimes an icon of the Mother of God, sometimes a portrait of a girl, very often a family portrait. The work is carried out using cutters on plastic coated with stain. Upon returning from military service, civilian life pulled me into its grip; I went as a cook as part of a rescue group to Armenia during an earthquake. (by the way, I wrote a small book “Notes of a Cook”, descriptions of those events, but it still lies in a dark closet). A few years later I remembered my hobby and began to create. At first I tried to paint pictures in different themes, landscapes, still lifes, portraits, animals, and even on the theme of, as they say today, fantasy, but I realized that my soul lies most of all with my little brothers. In 1996, for the first time, he exhibited several of his paintings at an art exhibition in the exhibition hall in Vorkuta and presented one of his paintings, “Valley of the Snake,” to the director of the exhibition hall. In April 2022, my new works were exhibited again in the exhibition hall in Vorkuta.
