I first had a spell of painting in 1957 then stopped for quite a while but started again in 2015 and I love painting birds and animals in all sorts of mediums; Pastel, Water Colour and Gouache sometimes using the different mediums together. I use a variety of paper to paint on such as Saunders Waterford (St Cuthberts Mill) HP paper and others.
I left school and started a engineering apprenticeship in 1956 but left and joined the Royal Navy and served on HMS Urchin, Sheffield, Birmingham and Daring. I left the navy in 1961 and went back to engineering at Mirlees Diesel Engine and worked finally in the research department. I left Mirlees in 1965 then I went Scaffolding for the next 30yrs finally having to retire in 1995 because I had Multiple Sclerosis then I went to Manchester Metropolitan University when I was 71yrs old finally leaving in 2015 with a Ba (hon) and a MA degree in History.
