Description of the Artwork “Getting Closer”

Getting Closer is a large semi-abstract oil painting of a vibrantly coloured magical woodland. A stream comes through it and a deer stag can be seen watching us in the distance. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. To the left are dark but colourful trees and around them curves a small river glittering and reflecting the warm autumn colours around it. On the far bank a small stag can be seen. The painting was created by overlapping many layers of transparent colour and shimmers like a stained-glass window. The inspiration behind it is the feeling of awe that woodland often has for me, particularly when you come across streams and ponds and catch the occasional deer watching you from the trees. Magic is real and it is found in nature. Sussex woodlands are small but numerous and all have their own unique character. Dedicated to all those people who work to protect and restore nature especially in Sussex and the South Downs areas. Painted on deep edge canvas, no frame needed, ready to hang, comes wit

About the artist
Gill Bustamante

Gill Bustamante, United Kingdom

I am a professional artist based in East Sussex who creates large semi abstract landscape, seascape and wildlife paintings in oil on canvas. My painting style is very distinct and fuses art-nouveau, impressionist and semi-abstract techniques with traditional portraiture that reflect my love of nature, animals, birds and the flora and fauna of the landscapes around me. My main working method has been the development of a painting style I term ‘memory impressionism’. This method involves going walking somewhere, looking at and absorbing the things I see and experience, and then returning home to my studio to try and capture an echo or essence of the place from memory - including any wildlife I may have seen. By this method I can capture essences and echoes of places and the feeling I have about them. I love the ancient landscapes of England and my paintings often reflect the spiritual elements that such landscapes have.
